- W1617883911 abstract "Resonator losses are caused either by lossy parts of the structure or by radiation of electromagnetic field energy through an open part of the resonator boundary (e.g., a coupled waveguide). One way to calculate the Q‐factors of the several resonator modes is to excite a short pulse in the time domain and sample the electromagnetic field in the resonator. Using the fast Fourier transform, the Q‐factors can be determined by the width of the resonance peaks. The application of this method may be difficult and the results may be less accurate when the peaks are close to one another. A new way to calculate the resonance frequencies and the Q‐factors without using the Fourier Transform is to use the Prony Pisarenko approximation. In most cases, this method requires much less samplings (and CPU time) than the application of the fast Fourier Transform, even when the peaks are close to one another. We give a short introduction to this new method and show some examples of damped resonant structures now being studied in the context of linear collider design studies." @default.
