- W162392406 abstract "Public amenities, social science and planning. The Centre of urban sociology undertook a long research in the social and spatial allotment of public amenities in Paris surroundings. On a large urban area as a whole varied by the structure of its population as well as by its spaces, we intended to estimate the social potential allotment of amenities in the field of public using. For each of the 548 urban units, we built up a group of indicators in order to appreciate the quantity, the quality, the variety, the way of working of amenities easily accessible to the dwelling population. We could build up a very strongly differenciated typology of spaces, very strongly allowing new interpretations of urban spaces. Besides, with regard to this research, questions relating to the social request of researches, to the connections between the practices of urban development and the mechanisms of scientific informations and to the paradox of the seeming uselessness of the latter are discussed in this paper. After having appreciated the importance, the limits and the relevant conditions of use of indicators of public amenities as they were imagined proposals are put forward to start discussions between researches and «social requests» connected with local urban policies." @default.
