- W1628722387 abstract "Invariant four-point amplitudes satisfying the “mathematical duality” constraints (essentially Regge behavior and meromorphy) are considered. A simple relationship between the fixed momentum transfer (Regge) and fixed angle asymptotic, high-energy behavior is established. The same reduced Regge residue functions appear in the Regge limit and in our fixed angle asymptotic formulae (but with different arguments). The problem of determination of the contribution to the large angle scattering of those direct channel resonances which build the Regge peaks is reduced to the search of the large momentum transfer behavior of the reduced Regge residues. The theory nicely incorporates the crossing symmetry. The general theory is applied to discuss the presently known large angle K±p, pp and pp scattering data. Strong arguments are given in favour of the conjecture that (dual) resonances contribute significantly to large angle scattering in the GeV energy range. The contribution of these resonances decreases exponentially with s (at fixed angle) and becomes unimportant at large enough laboratory energies (around 10 GeV). The observed correlation between the existence of a backward peak and a plateau around 90° is explained. It is claimed that large angle scattering in the GeV region provides us with information about large momentum transfer behavior of the reduced Regge residues (this behavior seems to be roughly of the 1/t2 type." @default.
