- W162904197 abstract "Computerized digital imaging has gained considerable importance in the angiographic assessment of coronary heart disease. Today, computer acquisition and enhancement of radiographic images is feasible for ‘road-mapping’ during angioplasty, for the determination of coronary bypass graft patency by aortic root injection, for transvenous or low-dose direct left ventriculography, and for the computerized geometric and video-densitometric quantitation of focal coronary narrowing [1–16]. This steady advance in digital electronic imaging may eventually lead to replacement of filmbased selective coronary arteriography [16–18]. Though the ‘filmless catheterization laboratory’ is a promising new modality, it is nevertheless not yet available for routine diagnostic use. We are all willing to use real-time digital imaging instead of film as the primary storage medium for the angiographic examination in the catheterization laboratory. But the arguments for digital substraction angiography, which are well accepted in non-cardiac arteriography, are not so convincing in the visualization of coronary arteries. There are technical limitations introduced by the analog-digital conversion and the capacity of digital discs that are not yet overcome. As long as the architecture of the imaging chain does not change, digital information is not superior to analog information for coronary angiography." @default.
