- W16295354 abstract "Abstract Among the methods developed for solving the damage identification problem, the use of theconjugate gradient method with the adjoint equation (CGM), also named Variational Approach,has recently been presented as a satisfactory choice to face this inverse problem. Consideringstructures with degree of freedom (DOF) bigger than 10, the variational approach does notpresent good results. Stochastic approaches, such as Genetic Algorithms (GA), represent apowerful choice for solving non-trivial problems. The GA approach reduces the chance ofconverging to local optima, however this approach is very CPU time-consuming. Therefore, thestructural damage identification problem is solved through the use of a hybrid method in whichthe stochastic approach, a Parallel Epidemic Genetic Algorithm (PGA), is initially employed,reducing the whole processing time, Concerning the PGA, it is codified considering the islandmodel, and the parallel code is generated using calls to the message passing communicationlibrary MPI (Message Passing Interface).KEY WORDS: structural damage identification, parallel genetic algorithm, conjugate gradientmethod, variational approach." @default.
