- W16335979 abstract "The human and economical consequences of recent earthquakes, highly mediatized, revived a public concern around the seismic risk. The West Indies are potentially subjected to earthquakes of very strong intensity (classification in zone III) which are combined with the maritime risk. Whereas Martinique has developed a of the cyclonic risk, the seismic poses the problem of the vulnerability of the populations and of the domestic and public infrastructures. The authorities want to develop a culture of risk to improve the preparation of individuals and to favor adaptive reaction to the occurrence of at the same time foreseeable risks but not predictibles. Earth sciences and the engineer have made significant progress during these ten last years; some tools for earthquake engineering have been published for individual constructions in the FWI. However, the transmission of this knowledge continues to run up against obstacles of psychosociological nature: incredulity, beliefs, values, magic thought, and myth of nature. Perception of the threat a broad multi-field study was carried out for which we will present the psychosociological research. The territories selected are the schools in urban space. Investigations were carried out with the directors of establishment, the teachers and the administrative staff. We carried out the survey in several establishments according to the vulnerability of the buildings, the taking into account of the in the policy of safety of the establishment and its space position in the urban networks. We carried out semi-directive interviews and cognitive maps. The mental map allows studying the individual perception of the territories at risk. It provides data likely to establish scenarios of evacuation post-crisis and to know the stakes of displacements of populations. The results show strong local distinctions; the perception of the threat and adaptive behaviours vary according to the schools because of the involvement of the local staff, of both professional and individual responsibilities (in education and safety). The selected sample makes it possible to highlight differences between generations because of the urban demographic growth. New generations are more educated, rational and perceive the differently than the old ones of which values and practical ancestral are deeply anchored." @default.
