The adjusted difference between randomised groups was statistically significant at 0.6 kg [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.31, 0.88]. Significantly, more participants gained ≥3 kg in the intervention group (138/720, 19%) compared with the placebo group (92/706, 13%) [odds ratio (OR) 1.57 (95% CI: 1.17, 2.12)]. The mean BMI increased from 27.5 to 27.8 kg/m(2) at 6 months in the intervention group compared with the increase from 27.0 to 27.2 kg/m(2) in the placebo group [adjusted difference between groups was statistically significant at 0.2 kg/m(2) (95% CI: 0.11, 0.31)].
