- W1644293755 abstract "We present a study of the role of the two-gluon processes in γN collisions. The gluon distribution in the photon is extracted by using vector meson dominance and the point-like coupling of the photon to the quarks prescribed by QCD. Cross sections for C-even bound states (e.g., ηc, η′c, ηb etc.) of quark and antiquark, for bound states (glueballs) of gluons and for Higgs scalars are calculated. Decay modes useful for their searches are discussed. The importance of the quarkoniums and the glueballs thus produced as a clean source of two-gluon jets is stressed. The possibility of detection of these states through missing-mass techniques, in addition to their detection via exclusive decay modes, is underscored. Besides the discrete states we also discuss the feasibility of testing QCD, especially its non-abelian character, via an experimental study of the hadronic continuum formed by the interaction of the two gluons. We show that the dominant contribution to the gluon-gluon cross section originates from the self-couplings amongst the octet of gauge fields which lead to the reaction g + g → g + g and not from the (conventional) flavor reaction g + g → f + f. The signal for the sample of events contributing to the gluon-gluon continuum cross section has a topology of four jets: in the c.m. frame of the beam and target two of the jets lie along the collision axis with one moving to the left, the other to the right and the remaining two are at a high transverse momentum with respect to that axis." @default.
