- W1646861310 abstract "Liquid films are encountered in many industrial applications such as heat exchangers and chemical process equipment. Therefore, there is significant interest in the prediction of heat and mass transport associated with film flow. As in any convective form of heat or mass transport, the fluid mechanics of the system strongly influence the resulting transport. This paper includes the results of experiments performed to define better the hydrodynamic characteristics of developing liquid films on vertical surfaces. In particular, this study provides data on water films at high Reynolds numbers (>10,000), and films of more viscous mixtures of water and propylene glycol. Statistical characteristics of film thickness that account for development length between 0.293 m and 1.913 m are presented over new ranges of Reynolds numbers and viscosities. Photographic analysis of film motion was also performed to investigate the three-dimensional structure of the waves." @default.
