- W1649486097 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the structures of individual phosphoglycerides and their constituent fatty acids. Some intact phosphoglycerides can be separated into molecular species. Separations have been reported for phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylcholine (PC). It is clear that cleaner fractions are obtained with the diacylglycerol separation but separation of the intact phosphoglycerides may be desired radiolabeling studies. For many purposes, phosphoglycerides can be conveniently quantitated by phosphorus analysis. Other phosphoglycerides are present in such small and/or erratic amounts that, it is possible that their presence is because of the contamination by other membranes, or in the case of phosphatidic acid, because of lipid degradation. The two major phosphoglycerides—phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine—have very similar fatty acid compositions as noted in other cell fraction. The presence of a high salt concentration in the upper phase prevents any loss of polar phosphoglycerides during extraction." @default.
