- W1649891470 abstract "This chapter discusses the use of 31p nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and, in particular, 31p chemical shifts to probe the structure and dynamics of phosphate ester enzyme complexes. This chapter discusses various phosphorus-31 chemical shifts, such as the interaction of the electron cloud surrounding the phosphorus nucleus with an external applied magnetic field B0 gives rise to a local magnetic field. This induced field shields the nucleus, with a magnitude proportional to the field B0. Measured 31p chemical shifts of a sample relative to a standard in a solvent of different diamagnetic susceptibility can differ by up to 1 ppm. To minimize this problem, it has been suggested that 31p chemical shifts in aqueous samples be measured relative to 85% phosphoric acid in a spherical microcell inside the solution. Several attempts have been made to develop a unified theoretical foundation for 31p chemical shifts of phosphorus compounds. This chapter also discusses the stereoelectronic effects on 31p chemical shifts as probe of DNA and DNA-protein structures." @default.
