- W1654241290 abstract "Loss of mass, angular momentum and magnetic flux from stars and stellar systems is occuring either in the form of a spherically symmetric wind, or, in the form of bipolar flows and jets. In this article we discuss a family of exact MHD solutions for such outflows from the central gravitational field of those stellar systems. The topology of the solutions is studied in detail and is controlled by several critical points. For the characteristic solution through these critical points it is shown that when the azimuthal components of the hydromagnetic field are small and the central object is a Slow Magnetic Rotator (SMR) the outflow is conical and asymptotically we obtain the classical picture of a radial wind. On the other hand, when the poloidal electric current and rotation are high and the central object is a Fast Magnetic Rotator (FMR) the outflow is collimated and the wind is focused toward the rotation and magnetic axis with wavy and knotty streamlines along this axis. Thus we conclude that when a young stellar object due to gravitational collapse condenses and therefore posseses high rotational rates due to angular momentum conservation, it is likely to have jet-like outflows. Bipolar flows from young stellar objects and protostars, T-Tauri stars, compact stellar objects like SS433, and also AGN may be understood in this manner. On the other hand, as the star ages and angular momentum is lost through its wind and associated magnetic field, the star slows down and its mass loss takes the form of a roughly radial classical solar/stellar wind." @default.
