- W166054229 abstract "Owing to the fortunate circumstances of their possessing a magnetic moment, neutrons have been for over 25 years a central tool in our microscopic investigations of magnetic phenomena in condensed matter. This is likely to be the case for the foreseeable future as well. In this article, I shall attempt to review what neutron scattering has revealed in recent years about two rapidly expanding areas of magnetism. The first is the field of the so-called “magnetic superconductors” which got its impetus from the discovery of certain families of ternary compounds [1,2] in the late seventies. The second is the field of intermediate valence and so-called “Kondo-type” magnetic materials, which have also been vigorously studied since the mid-seventies. The physics in both of these areas is not completely understood at present, but neutrons have turned out to be a very useful probe in these investigations." @default.
