- W166355103 abstract "It has been demonstrated that emotional painful stress paralleled with activation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) causes functional damage of the Ca2+ pump of heart sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) membranes. Preliminary injection to rats of a free radical scavenger, 4-methyl-2,6-di(tert-butyl)phenol prevents this damage. The observed effects were studied in a model system “in vitro” during LPO induction by the Fe2+ + ascorbate system in isolated SR membranes. Investigation of mechanisms responsible for Ca2+ pump damage induced by LPO showed that the Ca2+-accumulating properties of SR vesicles are decreased due to increased membrane permeability in the lipid bilayer region in which “peroxide clusters” are formed, as well as in the region of protein-lipid interactions. The decrease of Ca-ATPase activity in late steps of LPO is due to the deficiency of polyenoic lipids in the enzmye molecule microenvironment and to formation of intermolecular crosslinks." @default.
