- W1665624165 abstract "This chapter deals with chemical communication between two distinct organisms, a parasite and its host, and the manifestation of the recognition in plant cell growth and development. The chapter also discusses cell–cell communication among distant cells within the same organism and the response in the control of the cell cycle of developing tissue. A signal produced by one cell which controls neighboring cell mitotic events is also described. Biological recognition has been observed and quantified in systems involving animal behavior, and specific recognition signals have been shown to play an increasingly major role in the association of parasites, symbiotes, and pathogens with their hosts. Communication within an organism has been more extensively explored in animals. Hormones are rapidly transported within many animals to organize acute physiological and developmental changes. While there is no obvious mechanism for the rapid transport of hormonal signals in plants, the organization within any eukaryote requires such communication. A host of different growth factors have been discovered that play some role in the cascade of events required to activate cell division." @default.
