- W1667263453 abstract "The origin of aminiotic fluid proteins in the mouse was investigated. Analysis of amniotic fluid proteins by polyacrylamide disk gel electrophoresis revealed 3 major groups of proteins: 3 transferrins (Tr1 to 3), 5 fetoproteins designated β1 to 5, and albumin. During Days 13.5, 14.5, and 15.5 of gestation, Tr3 and β4 and 5 increased in concentration in fetal plasma; although these proteins also increased in the amniotic fluid, they showed a 24 to 48 hour delay. Evidence was presented which established that Tr2 was synthesized by the fetus, and Tr3, by both the fetus and mother; however, β4 and 5 were synthesized exclusively by the fetus. Thus, β-proteins and some transferrins in amniotic fluid are proteins derived from the fetus. The evidence also suggested albumin was primarily synthesized in the mother and transported to the fetus and amniotic fluid. It is suggested that the amniotic fluid acts as a storehouse for secreted proteins. The existence of fetus-specific proteins in amniotic fluid of other species is also discussed." @default.
