- W1667773529 abstract "Internet-based interventions (IBIs) are a promising avenue to help those with alcohol, tobacco, and other substance abuse concerns. The number of IBIs continues to multiply and, in recent years, tools have become available on the Internet for illicit drug use as well as tobacco and alcohol. This increase seems to be driven by several factors: the improved capabilities and availability of the Internet, the cost-effectiveness of IBIs once they have been set up, and a growing recognition that many people with addictions will never seek face-to-face treatment. Internet-based interventions commonly contain screeners that allow participants to evaluate their substance use. Ideally, these screeners contain a validated scale, allowing participants to assess the severity of their substance use. Many IBIs require potential participants to register before entering the main content areas of the Web site. Often the personalized feedback screener is situated outside of the main content of the IBI so that prospective participants can screen themselves before deciding if they want to commit to viewing more content. The primary purpose of registration is usually to allow the IBI to set up an account for the participant." @default.
