- W1672835822 abstract "As the in-vivo study is made difficult by the complexity of the cell machinery, fabrication of in-vitro model system could simplify the investigation of the physical properties of proteins. Adsorption of proteins at the air/water interface has now been widely used in the study of surface activity of biological compound. Beside this usual approach, study of freestanding films is an alternative way, which gives access to substantial information. Newton Black films (NBF) of surfactants are simple free standing bilayer systems involving most of the basic physical interactions existing in more complex structures such as biological membranes. The NBF provides a new methodology for the study of biological molecules. With a structure close to those of lipid bilayer and the confinement of molecules in a well-defined macroscopic object, NBF are ideal for precise measurements of biophysical properties of complex systems. In this work, we report the results obtained on a model protein, the Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA). Using a mixture of BSA and a non-anionic surfactant (C12E6), we have obtained the first Newton Black Film that contains proteins. Contrary to the cases of pure BSA films or pure surfactant films, the mixed one is stable for days and could have a large surface (several cm2). We follow here the NBF structure during the protein insertion by means of X-ray reflectivity." @default.
