- W167613442 abstract "Publisher Summary T cell receptor idiotypes on alloreactive T cells can be detected by anti-idiotypic antisera (aId) raised in F1 hybrid mice (crosses between MLR responder and stimulator strains) against allogeneically stimulated parental T cell blasts. It was observed aId mainly reacted either with idiotypic determinants on the receptors of cells proliferating in MLR or with alloreactive T killer cells. The data strongly suggest that these functionally defined T cell classes carry different receptor types. Unexpectedly, it was found that idiotype expression on alloreactive T cell blasts was polymorphic and controlled by the MHC and the allotype locus. It is unresolved whether the MHC influence on idiotype expression is due to selective forces on the T-cell repertoire or to the phenotypic expression of an MHC-encoded structural gene (s) for receptor polypeptide(s). The data, however, would be most easily reconciled with a two-receptor model as there is evidence for allotype locus-coded VH gene products on T cells expressed regardless of the MHC haplotype. Therefore, it could be postulated that the MHC exerts its influence on another VH gene product-associated polypeptide, possibly encoded by the MHC intself. Recently, by syngeneic blast immunization, antisera has been obtained against specificity associated receptor determinants of H-2 restricted anti-hapten-modified self killer cells. Even though experimental evidence is lacking, this might suggest that apart from overlapping sets of idiotypes on T and B cells, there exist idiotypes unique to T cells." @default.
