No inicio, no meio e no final do 1o. ano do primeiro ciclo, 41 criancas de meio popular participaram de uma tarefa de escrita de palavras e de dez tarefas de CF. Constatamos que habilidades ligadas a reflexao sobre silabas e a comparacao de palavras quanto ao tamanho, bem como a identificacao de silabas iniciais iguais se mostraram necessarias para as criancas atingirem hipoteses silabicas. A identificacao de palavras com mesmo fonema inicial foi mais frequente entre alunos silabico-alfabeticos e alfabeticos. Sistema de notacao alfabetica. AbstractWe analised the role of different phonological awareness (hence, PA) abilities in the process of learning alphabetic writing, conceived as a notational system. At the beginning, middle and end of first grade, 41 children underwent a dictation task and 10 different PA tasks. We found out that abilities related to syllables and to comparing word length, as well as those concerning the identification of equal first syllables in words were necessary for children to reach a syllabic hypothesis of writing. Identification of words beginning with the same phoneme was more developed among children with syllabic-alphabetic or alphabetic writing hypothesis. Besides that, children who had reached an alphabetic hypothesis weren’t able either to segment words into phonemes or to count word phonemes.Keywords: Reading instruction. Phonological awareness.
