- W168497683 abstract "Abstract This chapter develops a more adequate moral psychology of the blaming emotions by appealing to recent psychological research to argue that the blaming emotions are significant for our moral responsibility practices in three different ways. They are important to moral responsibility in appraising people as acting wrongfully, in communicating the appraisal to perceived wrongdoers, and in sanctioning those appraised as wrongful. Further, it is argued that the three ways in which the blaming emotions are significant for our moral responsibility practices are associated with very different kinds of appropriateness considerations. Finally, appraisal, communication, and sanction are linked to representative accounts of moral responsibility. It is suggested that each kind of account is inspired by a different way in which the blaming emotions are significant and thus each account implicitly emphasizes a different consideration of emotional appropriateness." @default.
