- W168699136 abstract "In this paper, nonhydrostatic model N, hydrostatic model H and quasi-geostrophic modelG are compared and analyzed, and solutions to N, H and G models are given in integral forms. It is pointed out that the commonly adopted hypothesis of hydrostatic equilibrium not onlyleads to false high frequency gravitational waves, but also filters out the inertial convectionwhich may possibly exist in neutral or in more or less unstable atmosphere. There exists inhydrostatic adjustment processes a changeable time boundary layer determined by the strati-fication. In static stable stratifications of high and middle latitudes, the hydrostatic adjust-ment process and the geostrophic adjustment process are characterized by their separability intime. But these adjustment processes can hardly run their courses if the stratification comesclose to a neutral state. The main mechanism of hydrostatic adaptation is not the dispersionof acoustic waves, but the transformation of buoyancy gravity waves into mass gravity waves. The correctness of the simplified versions of various models has been defined. Analysisshows that the nonhydrostatic model is more suitable for prediction of mesoscale. Three condi-tions required for quasi-hydrostatic approximation are listed. It seems that it is not adequatein practice to use hydrostatic models under only one geometric condition, L/H>>1 as has beenwidely done." @default.
