Such contracts are suprisingly indeterminate & processes of negotiation develop around them as employers & employees attempt to exercise control & secure order within the on-going organization. The strategies adopted by different groups of actors & the ends they pursue can only be understood by taking account of their orientations to work (which are influenced by both work & nonwork factors & experiences); & many of their conditions of action are determined by the nature of the context & environment within which the organization exists, for example the labor & product markets.
