• W1700187069 abstract "Objectives: this study creates a model with different modules and indicators that analyses the living conditions in China. This model is applied on the cities of Shenzhen and Kashgar to get an understanding of the influence of a Special Economic Zone status on the living conditions of the population in the city. Method: he Living Conditions of Chinese Cities model is inspired on the Living Standards Measurement Study and the Human Development Index. Results: he analysis of the LCCC model on Shenzhen highlighted the enormous economical growth of the city, the rapidly expanding of the infrastructure, the increase of the population because of the migration of rural, young workers to Shenzhen. The analysis of the LCCC model on Kashgar presented a growth in employment opportunities, raising real estate prices, discrimination against women, an expanding infrastructure and the increase of migration of Han Chinese to Kashgar. Conclusion: the living conditions of the population in Kashgar can be positively influenced by the SEZ-status of the city. However, a major part of the population does not profit from the new situation of Kashgar. This creates ethnical tension between different groups of the population and this could negatively influence the benefits of the SEZ-status." @default.
