- W170982893 abstract "Publisher SummaryThis chapter elaborates the African case study of needs of accounting education. Few governments in Africa have systematic arrangements for the training, and education of their accountants. The need for accounting education, and accounting services may be expressed when those in positions of power understand the underlying principles of accounting, and are in a position to demand the services they require. The more educated the people are, the better placed they are to demand accounting, and support any program for the education of accountants. It is, therefore, essential in every African country to establish, and strengthen increasingly the attitude toward accounting, and accountability as a way of thinking, which would become more, and more powerful as they become widely accepted. This accountability outlook cannot be established by force. It should depend on acceptance through proper understanding. The accounting profession in a country may, on its own, or through the assistance of external parties, evolve a reasonable national accounting education program, and but such a program can be accepted, and implemented only when it is properly appreciated by persons capable of similar understanding." @default.
