- W1716936463 abstract "Publisher Summary Particle simulation as applied in the direct simulation Monte-Carlo (DSMC) method is a technique for analyzing low density flows and is used extensively for engineering analysis of aerospace vehicles. This chapter compares two implementations of this method on outwardly similar massively parallel architectures. The MasPar MP-2 and the connection machine CM-2 are both massively parallel single instruction, multiple data (SIMD) architectures with a data parallel paradigm. The MasPar MP-2 provides better performance over the connection machine CM-2 in the particle simulation presented in this chapter. This advantage can be attributed to the faster router and improved memory performance of the MP-2. Memory and communication bandwidth requirements are especially important in this application, and these will have the greatest impact on the application performance. For this reason, adopting the hierarchical data layout employed by the CM Fortran compiler would conceivably further improve the application performance on the MP-2." @default.
