- W1723832712 abstract "Research has long revealed the importance of the ability to reduce negative (or unpleasant) emotions so as to protect the individual’s mental and physical health and to foster harmonious social relationships. More recently, studies from the “positive psychology” field have focused on positive (or pleasant) emotions and their benefits. These studies have highlighted that higher levels of positive emotions are associated with a set of benefits in areas of the individual's life similar to those associated with lower levels of negative emotions. Given these facts, the question that we are rising in the dissertation is: “If an individual wishes to improve his psychological or physical health or his social relationships, what kind of emotion regulation (between increasing positive emotions or decreasing the negative ones) would he gain to preferentially use”? Through this work, we will try to answer this question while providing theoretical insights into the processes underlying these two types of emotion regulation as well as indications on practical means individuals could use to achieve these goals." @default.
