- W1748477656 abstract "Historically, canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) was first described in dogs allergic to ragweed pollens. These descriptions led to the definition of atopic dermatitis as a pruritic dermatitis due to allergy to environmental allergens. These allergens include dust and storage mites, pollens, mould spores, epithelium, insects, and antigens like kapok or wool. Environmental allergens still play a major role in most cases, but the improved knowledge on the specificity of the immune response to these allergens has allowed a more targeted diagnostic approach. Cross-sensitization to environmental allergens is predominantly to house dust mites (HDM) in atopic dogs. Standardization of allergenic extracts adapted to each species (human, dog, cat, horse) could allow the production of more efficient allergenic extracts for the diagnosis and treatment of atopic dermatitis. Furthermore, this would enable a big step forward in clinical and basic science research of CAD." @default.
