Zip Code: 90.040-000 Abstract Forests play a fundamental role in an ecosystem, they are capable of regulating the quality of air, the flow of water and the climate. In addition, they can hold vast amounts of carbon and serve as home to a wide range of biodiversity. In order to promote forest protection, avoiding degradation and disordered occupancy and, at the same time, to make sustainable management viable, forest concessions emerged. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the most important aspects of the formation of concessions in Brazil, under the scope of the asymmetric information theory. The idea is to describe and apply a model that takes into account the presence of uncertainty and the difficulties of monitoring. The results, applied to the National Forest of Jamari indicate that with a fine equal to the total value obtained from illegal extraction plus 20% requires a monitoring that establishes the probability of detecting illegal logging in 62%, in order to resolve the moral hazard problem.
