- W1753649024 abstract "This Master Thesis was done in collaboration with Nederman AB in Helsingborg and the aim was to analyse and develop a suggestion for a new modernized Powerbox which is one of Nedermans products in the auto workshop segment. The Powerbox is a product for sourcing of compressed air, vacuum suction and electric power. Nederman is a strong brand and considered a market leader in many of its areas. The Powerbox is however regarded as being too expensive and in need of improvements. The new design should be a long-term solution since these products have long market life cycles. Focus during the process has been to make a product that has improved ergonomics, functionality and cost efficiency. The thesis has been conducted based on well known product development methods. Primarily has Ulrich and Eppinger’s Product Design and Development been used. [1] The needs and demands for the new box were collected from interviews and observations at auto workshops and during discussions with experienced people from Nederman. The old Powerbox was also analyzed thoroughly to identify weaknesses, strengths and cost driving factors. Combined with a research of the competitors it gave a good foundation to work from and it was formulated in a function analysis. After the concept generation phase the process for detail design development of the product begun. During the project it was continuously checked that the different suggestions and concepts were feasible. Materials, manufacturing methods and new features were all subjects that were examined and developed. Several mock-up prototypes were made and a final prototype in full-scale size was made in similar materials as the suggested final design. The result was a Powerbox with new design, added functionality and reduced cost. The new design of the Powerbox is made up of fewer and cheaper parts than the current product. It has also increased functionality in terms of ergonomics due to the bevelled bottom part. The final cost reduction was estimated to be over 40%, for the examined parts, which was more than the targeted 35%.
