• W177325186 abstract "The proposed research has as its theme the study of variables analyzed by decision-makers during the process of decision-making. The selection of the theme is justified by the importance of decision making in organizations, and by the growing necessity that decisions will be taken rapidly and without exposing the enterprise to many risks. In this context, to survey the landscape which the decision makers take into consideration when deciding, what seems important to them and even what they consider secondary or irrelevant, may help other decision-makers in different occasions. These may more easily select the essential information restricted to the key items, without spending time with the dispensable ones or with the ones that have no added value towards a specific decision. Therefore, the focus of this research is to define a set of variables which decision makers consider essential when making decisions in the different areas of management, rating them according to its incidence and verifying the differences between them. This will enable us to understand decision-makers as to their needs for support in decisionmaking, establishing a set of references to confront new situations. By means of a survey, data was collected through interviews and mail in thirty medium and large food industries, located in almost every geographical region of Rio Grande do Sul state. The respondents were managers or directors of these enterprises; they answered a set of open questions simulating situations of decision making about a wide range of subjects. Starting from the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the collected data, we defined a set of variables that were considered essential by decision makers, that is, the variables that should be preferentially taken into consideration in decision-making, and these variables were listed according to functional areas of the enterprise, thus completing the set of references." @default.
