- W177548961 abstract "597 Objectives To asssess the relationship between plaque neovascularisation and inflammation by DCE-MRI and 18F-FDG-PET/CT: histological correlation. Methods 11-patients with symptomatic carotid disease undergoing endarterectomy were imaged prospectively with 18F-FDG-PET/CT. Plaque TBR and SUV was recorded for the symptomatic/asymptomatic side. 3T DCE-MRI was performed in 9 patients following gadolinium-DPTA IV. Motion correction and registration were applied prior to ROI analysis to generate a gadolinium concentration-time curve and quantitative parameters (Ktrans). Surgical specimens were stained for CD 68, CD105, GLUT-1, VEGF. Results Mean TBR was 1.5±0.4 versus 1.2±0.2 (p=0.039) and SUV 2.4±0.5 versus 2.2±0.4 (p=0.074) on the symptomatic/asymptomatic side respectively. Mean Ktranswas 0.24±0.28. Three patients (symptomatic side) had plaque with a fast washout gadolinium curve. There were negative correlations between Ktrans and CD 105 (r=-63, p=0.096) and VEGF (r=-82 p=0.015). There were inverse relationships between plaque 18F-FDG uptake and Ktrans (r= -61; p=0.067). Conclusions Carotid plaque with high-glucose metabolism is associated with reduced Ktrans and elevated VEGF suggesting neovascularization may be stimulated by lower perfusion in inflamed plaques." @default.
