- W17812043 abstract "Water and energy have become two limited resources that are affecting both our quality of life and economic growth which is the future of our communities. Today’s energy-generation infrastructure has caused severe water limitations. Simultaneously, the water used for energy generation has caused severe energy consumption. Today’s energy and water infrastructure is a dichotomy of counter interdependence that is doomed for failure. Our focus on energy conservation has been misaligned. However, the good news is that there is a readily available solution. The use of community-based water- and energy-generation facilities will have significant impact on the sustainability of our communities. In fact, the development of such an infrastructure to replace traditional centralized facilities is essential. Success for community-based generation facilities will be dependent on the generation, management, and analysis of reliable data. The technology evolution in smart data systems is an important success story. The ability to manage micro community systems is now well underway with the continuous improvement in identifying inefficiencies and reducing operational risk. There are numerous opportunities to use water and energy resources more efficiently through the use of new design methods, materials, monitoring, and control systems. Through the use of simple, already commercialized, community-based energy and water-generation technology and the implementation of data utilities, energy consumption can be reduced as much as 80%. In addition, the use of community energy-management systems, which do not depend on cooling waste heat with freshwater, will reduce the depletion of freshwater inventories in a quantity that would be of sufficient volume to satisfy the potable water demands of North America. Finally, the concept of community energy generation will allow an easy reduction in CO 2 emissions to satisfy North American 2017 CO 2 targets. The use of smart data systems and micro water pressure systems will augment these efficiencies even further." @default.
