Followup was 4 to 96 months, with a mean of 37 months. Social continence was achieved in 94.5 per cent of the patients. No abnormality of detrusor function was found in any patient. Prior pelvic irradiation appears to increase the risk of cuff erosion. Routine nocturnal deactivation of the device together with primary deactivation is recommended to decrease the incidence of cuff erosion in this patient group. © 1989 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byLai H and Boone T (2018) The Surgical Learning Curve of Artificial Urinary Sphincter Implantation: Implications for Prosthetic Training and ReferralJournal of Urology, VOL. 189, NO. 4, (1437-1443), Online publication date: 1-Apr-2013.de Cógáin M and Elliott D (2018) The Impact of an Antibiotic Coating on the Artificial Urinary Sphincter Infection RateJournal of Urology, VOL. 190, NO. 1, (113-117), Online publication date: 1-Jul-2013.Lai H, Hsu E, Teh B, Butler E and Boone T (2018) 13 Years of Experience With Artificial Urinary Sphincter Implantation at Baylor College of MedicineJournal of Urology, VOL. 177, NO. 3, (1021-1025), Online publication date: 1-Mar-2007.HUSSAIN M, GREENWELL T, VENN S and MUNDY A (2018) THE CURRENT ROLE OF THE ARTIFICIAL URINARY SPHINCTER FOR THE TREATMENT OF URINARY INCONTINENCEJournal of Urology, VOL. 174, NO. 2, (418-424), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2005.GOMHA M and BOONE T (2018) ARTIFICIAL URINARY SPHINCTER FOR POST-PROSTATECTOMY INCONTINENCE IN MEN WHO HAD PRIOR RADIOTHERAPY: A RISK AND OUTCOME ANALYSISJournal of Urology, VOL. 167, NO. 2 Part 1, (591-596), Online publication date: 1-Feb-2002.GOUSSE A, MADJAR S, LAMBERT M and FISHMAN I (2018) ARTIFICIAL URINARY SPHINCTER FOR POST-RADICAL PROSTATECTOMY URINARY INCONTINENCE: LONG-TERM SUBJECTIVE RESULTSJournal of Urology, VOL. 166, NO. 5, (1755-1758), Online publication date: 1-Nov-2001.CLEMENS J, SCHUSTER T, KONNAK J, McGUIRE E and FAERBER G (2018) REVISION RATE AFTER ARTIFICIAL URINARY SPHINCTER IMPLANTATION FOR INCONTINENCE AFTER RADICAL PROSTATECTOMY: ACTUARIAL ANALYSISJournal of Urology, VOL. 166, NO. 4, (1372-1375), Online publication date: 1-Oct-2001.MADJAR S, RAZ S and GOUSSE A (2018) FIXED AND DYNAMIC URETHRAL COMPRESSION FOR THE TREATMENT OF POST-PROSTATECTOMY URINARY INCONTINENCE: IS HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF?Journal of Urology, VOL. 166, NO. 2, (411-415), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2001.MONTAGUE D, ANGERMEIER K and PAOLONE D (2018) LONG-TERM CONTINENCE AND PATIENT SATISFACTION AFTER ARTIFICIAL SPHINCTER IMPLANTATION FOR URINARY INCONTINENCE AFTER PROSTATECTOMYJournal of Urology, VOL. 166, NO. 2, (547-549), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2001.MADJAR S, JACOBY K, GIBERTI C, WALD M, HALACHMI S, ISSAQ E, MOSKOVITZ B, BEYAR M and NATIV O (2018) BONE ANCHORED SLING FOR THE TREATMENT OF POST-PROSTATECTOMY INCONTINENCEJournal of Urology, VOL. 165, NO. 1, (72-76), Online publication date: 1-Jan-2001.FRANK I, ELLIOTT D and BARRETT D (2018) SUCCESS OF DE NOVO REIMPLANTATION OF THE ARTIFICIAL GENITOURINARY SPHINCTERJournal of Urology, VOL. 163, NO. 6, (1702-1703), Online publication date: 1-Jun-2000.SMITH D, APPELL R, RACKLEY R and WINTERS J (2018) COLLAGEN INJECTION THERAPY FOR POST-PROSTATECTOMY INCONTINENCEJournal of Urology, VOL. 160, NO. 2, (364-367), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1998.Chancellor M, Watanabe T, Rivas D, Hong R, Kumon H, Ozawa H and Bourgeois I (2018) GRACILIS URETHRAL MYOPLASTY: PRELIMINARY EXPERIENCE USING AN AUTOLOGOUS URINARY SPHINCTER FOR POST-PROSTATECTOMY INCONTINENCEJournal of Urology, VOL. 158, NO. 4, (1372-1375), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1997.Chancellor M, Strup S, Rivas D, Watanabe T and Gomella L (2018) Rectus Urethromyoplasty of Radical Prostatectomy Anastomosis Decreases Postoperative Incontinence and Anastomotic Stricture;
