- W178359845 abstract "This chapter presents a detailed analysis of nervous system. It also presents a discussion of neurochemistry, as a way of explaining its emergence as a semi-independent discipline within the broad field of modern biochemistry. At the Rockefeller Institute, J. Folch-Pl assisted in a program of study of the physiopathology of the pituitary hormones on which Irvine Page was engaged. His contribution was supposed to be the study of changes in blood lipids in various pituitary disorders. In practice, the work consisted in setting up quantitative methods for the analysis of lipids. The various areas of the brain shared the common features of being constituted by neurons and neuroglia. Neurons were the conducting elements. They belonged to a few basic types but the variations within each type were almost infinite. Neuroglia was referred to as the supportive element of the tissue, a description that was a tacit admission of little knowledge as to the exact function of these cellules." @default.
