- W178399095 abstract "Siemens Matsushita Components has specially developed a series of plastic film capacitors for aerospace applications. These metallized polyethylene terephthalate film capacitors (MKT-S) supersede the metalized cellulose acetate (MKU) capacitors. Several new features going beyond the scope of standard components have been added to the design of the MKT-S capacitors: ○ Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film with structured metalization. The metalized film is split into segments with small lands on the contact side. These vaporize like fuses in the presence of a defined amount of energy, thus providing optimum protection against short circuits. ○ Buried mandril winding MKT-S capacitors are manufactured in wound filmtechnology. In one of the first production steps, the two metalized plastic films are normally wound onto a core. In order to avoid a central cavity in the capacitor body which could lead to a corona discharge, the MKT-S capacitors are wound onto plastic mandrils. ○ Encapsulation in a metal tube ○ Specification for production quality packaging and logistics in accordance with customers and the European space agency." @default.
