- W1796197672 abstract "Arsenic occurrence in drinking water sources is still not-fully solved, world-wide issue causing undesirable health effects to millions of people. To better understand the scale of the problem the arsenic properties and impact to human health has been described. Foremost knowledge about the basic chemical and physical behavior of arsenic species in water environment is essential in developing and implementing proper removal technologies, which have risen been studied in last decade since the World Health Organization has put in force new guidelines for arsenic presence in drinking water, still not achievable in some countries. In the review is main focus on the simplest and most effective methods based on coprecipitation and adsorption processes employing iron compounds. Moreover, other techniques able to improve arsenic removal technologies, like advanced oxidation processes and those that make use of microorganisms, are also portrayed. Finally the novel arsenic removal system, developed and implemented in Denmark to meet the most rigorous water standards, is demonstrated as the practical examples of technology utilizing some of the studies about the role of iron ions and hydroxides in arsenic removal treatment." @default.
