- W180400479 abstract "The construction of the M6 Toll Road in the UK is a design-and-build contract by a joint venture of Carillion, Alfred McAlpine, Balfour Beatty and Amec (CAMBBRA). The pavement for the design is described. Factors influencing the design included the availability of a large quantity of high-quality concreting aggregate on site, the requirements for the design to be in accordance with the Highways Agency standard methods, the planned construction platform needed to carry a large volume of construction traffic, and the running surface had to be a bituminous material. A continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) was selected. The layers consisted of a 3% California Bearing Ratio design subgrade, 230 mm CBM2A sub-base, a bituminous sprayed de-bonding membrane, 220 m CRCP slab, a bituminous emulsion, and 35mm of bituminous wearing course. Details are given of the CRCP construction and the bituminous pavement. Construction problems included construction erosion of the cement bound materials (CBM) sub-base, fracturing of the CBM sub-base and CBM level control." @default.
