- W182489714 abstract "Publisher Summary Various techniques for the study of flowing systems have been developed and refined. Two factors gave impetus to the use of model and visualization techniques for such equipment. One of these was the realization of the practical gas-turbine engine, in which the utmost efficiency of every component is vital. The other was the recognition of the economic necessity for improving fuel utilization in all kinds of industrial process. The choice of technique for visualizing the flow in an aerodynamic system must be related to the type of system under study and the aims of the particular investigation in hand. The validity of results obtained with a model depends on the extent to which the model simulates the original system, and this must depend on the type of flow regime studied. For determining the main features of a simple two-dimensional system, such as the incompressible, isothermal flow of air round an aerofoil, the simplest methods of flow visualization can be used in either an air tunnel or an open water channel. Whereas a more complicated system, necessitates more care in technique and in the interpretation of results. It has been pointed out that in many cases of flow simulation, the precise identity of the various flow characterizing parameters is unnecessary because of the high general level of turbulence in the system." @default.
