• W183700849 abstract "If a molecular crystal, e.g. naphthalene or anthracene, is irradiated by light, energy is absorbed by electrons and they are excited from the highest occupied orbital of a molecule to its lowest unoccupied state. In this way energy is stored and a localized exciton, a quantum particle, is created. However, such a localized excitation is not a stationary state of the crystal. On account of the interaction between the molecules, it will be transferred to other crystal sites. One of the interesting questions in this connection is the following: is this particle motion incoherent or is it coherent, or in other words, does the excitation move via a hopping process [1], which may be described by a master equation [2] or does it propagate as a wave packet [3] via tunneling, whose time development is determined by the Schrodinger equation?" @default.
