- W1837701407 abstract "The study described in this chapter suggests that both protonic, acidic property, and reduced state of molybdenum in H3PMo12O40 play an important role in the selective oxidation of alkanes with molecular oxygen. Well-reduced H3PMo12O40 that is formed by the heat treatment of pyridinium salt can catalyze the propane oxidation to acrylic acid and acetic acid selectively. After activation in N2 flow at 420°C for two hours, the catalyst of H3PMo12O40 (Py) shows reduced state of molybdenum and a new stable structure in which pyridine remains as the linkage of the secondary structure. The activated H3PMo12O40 (Py) also gives catalytic activities in the partial oxidations of ethane and isobutane to acetic acid and methacrylic acid, respectively. The chapter discusses the oxidation results of C2–C4 alkanes and the roles of reduced state and activation of molecular oxygen over this catalyst. A possible reaction mechanism has been proposed for alkane oxidation where the cooperation of proton and electron in the reduced H3PMo12O40 catalyst, having acidity in the activation of molecular oxygen, and the subsequent activation of propane are shown along with consecutive allylic oxidation." @default.
