- W18449411 abstract "This chapter provides with the investigative evidence of the presence of a hormone named natriuretic. Studies suggest that changes in hydrostatic pressure have analogous effects, for example, elevation of renal venous pressure has been reported to reduce proximal reabsorption. While the relationship between an inhibitor of sodium transport in amphibian membranes and a mammalian natriuretic factor would seem a little uncertain, one would surely have to give serious consideration to any activity consistently present during natriuresis and absent in hydropenia. The individual with markedly reduced renal function shares with the saline-loaded individual the characteristic of excreting a large fraction of the sodium contained in the glomerular filtrate. When assayed in diabetes insipidus rats, it caused an increased excretion of sodium but no regular change in urine flow, suggesting that its effect is primarily in the distal nephron." @default.
