- W1847024145 abstract "Perhaps the most serious intervention a cardiologist can recommend to patients under his care is cardiac surgery. Doppler ultrasound has proven merit in identifying patients with critical mitral and aortic stenosis, as well as severe aortic regurgitation who may warrant such intervention [1, 2, 3]. However, the most common complaint that patients bring to a clinical cardiologist is that of chest pain, mandating that the presence and severity of coronary artery disease be established. It is the purpose of this chapter to introduce the emerging role of Doppler ultrasound in the identification and classification of patients with coronary artery disease by stress testing. The merit of Doppler examination during stress testing lies in the ability to quanitate ventricular function by noninvasive measurement of velocity, acceleration, and volume of blood leaving the left ventricle during systolic ejection." @default.
