- W184968604 abstract "Over the past five years numerous cross-national statistical studies have been conducted on the causes of civil war. The most influential studies have been those by Paul Collier and Anke Hoeffler (e.g. 2004, 2002a, 2002b, 2001, 1999; Collier, 2000a, 2000b, 1999). Their early work inspired many of the subsequent inquiries into the relationship between natural resource dependence and the onset of civil war (Ross, 2004a), and their findings have been widely reported in media such as The Financial Times, The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Economist (Fearon, 2005: 483-4). Their work has also been widely cited in governmental and international reports on security and stability, including the recent reports of the Commission for Africa (2005), the British Prime Minister's Strategy Unit (2005), and the United Nations Secretary-General's High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change (2004)" @default.
