- W1850261329 abstract "During the last decades, several disciplines researching cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular risk factors -as is the case of essential hypertension- began to address these health issues from a gender perspective, opposed to the androcentric stance historically dominant. In such a context, this paper aims to analyze, according to gender, coping strategies used by essential hypertensive patients to deal with the stress caused by the diagnosis of hypertension. A comparative-descriptive, cross-sectional design was used. 200 hypertensive adult patients participated, recruited from different health centers located in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (Argentine). The instruments applied were the Sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire. “Planned problem solving” and “Distance” were the coping strategies that showed significant differences according to gender: both were more used by men than by women. The relevance of such a study, aimed at improving quality and promoting gender equality, is in that it contributes with evidence of interest to plan prevention and intervention taking into account the needs and differences of women and men/male and female." @default.
