- W185819691 abstract "complexity of community health agent (CHA) activities suggests that, as health workers, CHAs are exposed to stressful situations. This study thus aims, through CHAs' perceptions, to identify stressors at work and coping strategies. The theoretical framework was given by the Lazarus and Folkman model of stress and coping. For this descriptive, qualitative study, 17 CHAs with the family health program in a town in Sao Paulo State were interviewed. The analysis focused on identifying work events that the agents perceived as stressors and the strategies they used to cope with them. Stressful events were categorized into: working conditions; pay; gender; relations between family and work; and the emotional burden. The coping strategies were grouped into emotion-oriented and problem- oriented. It is believed that, by identifying stressful situations, the CHAs are signaling related feelings of discomfort and also solutions for planning their activities, preparation and training.
