- W1866095424 abstract "A Brief Introduction to the Fibroblast Growth Factor Gene Family The fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family of genes presently comprise 18 members, including the two prototypes, FGF-1 (acidic) and FGF-2 (basic). Although the FGF prototypes are well described as mediators of a variety of diverse biological responses, such as mesoderm induction, neurogenesis, and angiogenesis in vivo, space constraints prevent a discussion of these activities. Likewise, while although many of the members of the FGF gene family, most notably FGF-1, FGF-2, and FGF-3, are involved in intracellular trafficking between the cytosol and nucleus, it is also not possible to discuss these data and their potential significance. Since this review will focus upon recent advances in FGF receptor signaling and the identification of the pathway for FGF-1 export/release, it is recommended that the reader consult the following citations for this information.1-5" @default.
