The heterogeneous nucleation and subsequent growth of CeO2 nanorods are an electric field-assisted process, which depend upon the current density and electrolyte concentration. At low electric field intensity, amorphous nanoparticles are formed; whereas, at high electric field intensity, a layer of dense film is deposited (caused by the overgrowth of CeO2). By using an optimum electrochemical condition, namely current density of 0.1 mA/cm2 and Ce(Cl)3 solution concentration of 0.5 mmol/L, moderate electric field intensity can be obtained to grow the CeO2 nanorod–TiO2 nanotube hybrid nanostructure." @default.
