- W1875558274 abstract "As demand grows for the multiple goods and services that flow from the forest, it becomes increasingly important that forests be managed carefully for all competing uses and that waste be avoided. This is the motivation for wood compatibility research. The word “compatibility” has a particular meaning to economists. It refers to the attributes of the set of all feasible combinations of outputs when resources are limited. This is known as the production possibilities set. For forestland, that set defines the productive capacity of a site with respect to a set of potential forest uses. If the set is empty, there are no combinations of the forest uses that are feasible; the forest uses are completely incompatible, or mutually exclusive. Most forest uses exhibit some degree of compatibility in the sense that joint production is feasible. The greater the set of possible combinations of forest uses, the more compatible the uses." @default.
