- W1878064 abstract "All but two of 44 viruses of cool season food legumes (chickpea, faba bean, lentil, and pea) are known to be spread by vectors, and their majority (37) by insects. One of the insect-borne viruses is transmitted by leafhoppers, two are by thrips, five by beetles, and 29 by aphids. The viruses have different, more or less intimate relationships with their insect vectors, and all have different ecologies largely determined by those of their vectors. Opportunities for epidemic development of the resulting virus diseases, therefore, differ considerably, as do possibilities for control of these diseases by vector control. There is no single effective approach; breeding for resistance to vectors of the viruses is only one of a range of control measures, and new problems caused by insect-vectored viruses are likely to emerge with time." @default.
